Your homework time

State your homework time. Your teacher will ask you to beat it today.

Predict

Before you state your time, predict:

1. What is speed today actually a stand-in for?

02
Input · 6 min

What "against the clock" actually tests

Speed is not the point on its own — it is a stand-in for fluency without translation. A designer who has to mentally convert "fifty-two foot six" from a number in her head, every single time, will be slow no matter how well she knows her own set. One who has drilled it will be fast for a different reason: she is not translating any more, just saying it.

Discovery Check

Check what you just read.

1. Why would a designer who knows her own set well still be slow?

03
Focus on Form · 8 min

What to have ready before you start

A thirty-second checklist

CheckWhy
Know your sheet countSo you can say "seven sheets" without counting live
Know two or three key dimensions coldSo you are not calculating mid-sentence
Know where the drainage and grading sheets sitThe two sheets people ask about most
Checklist

Match each check to its reason.

Warm up the pieces

Open Cloze

Complete the walkthrough opening. One word per gap.

This set has seven sheets. Sheet L0 is the project information. L1 the existing conditions, and L2 shows the new design. The scale L2 is quarter-inch. If you need the drainage plan, it shown L4.

05
Rehearsal · 18 min

The full set, timed

Start to finish, no stopping.

Task card

Your own set, your teacher timing you

Walk through every sheet, in order, naming what each one is and giving at least two real dimensions correctly.

  • Do not stop if you make a small mistake — correct it and keep moving.
  • Use at least one precise location ("bottom right of L5") somewhere in the walkthrough.
  • Your teacher announces the time at the end.
Before the Timer Starts

One check before you begin.

1. If you make a small mistake mid-walkthrough, what should you do?

Teacher note Do not interrupt for small errors — let her keep momentum, and note what she self-corrects versus what she does not notice. Compare the finishing time honestly against her Lesson 6 homework time.
06
Feedback · 6 min

Faster, and why

Compare today’s time to your homework time. If it is faster, which specific habit from Lessons 4–6 do you think caused it? If it is not faster, that is useful information too — where did you still hesitate?

Error Correction

A last consolidation before the unit task — fix each error.

1. The scale note reads one hundred eighty-nine feet three.

2. Where the grading plan shown is?

07
Wrap-up · 4 min

Before the unit task

Homework. Decide exactly which sheets you will cover in a 90-second recording — you will not have time for all of them if the set is long. Choose which ones matter most.

Quick Check

One check before you go.

1. What should you decide for homework?
